Creativity Homework

How have you tried to facilitate and encourage your own creativity?

I have done this by being open to ideas and being immersed in problamatic issues that arose during the making of my film.

Did you experience limits/blocks on your own creativity?

Yes. Sometimes I didn't always know how to solve a problem e.g. not always knowing what shots would be effective in creating the right mood for the scene. However this gave me confidence to try things out and if they didnt work I wouldn't include the shots in editing.

How easy/difficult was it to be creative while still working to the brief?

The brief was very flexible and allowed for a wide scope to be creative. This made it easy to bounce ideas off of each other within a group.

Did working within conventions stifle your creativity?

It did in some ways as having a low budget also made it difficult to create and Action/Thriller as we did not have the money for things like explosions and car crashes. So it meanrt we had to strip things down but this meant lateral thinking was neccessary and our minds were challenged to create an opening that clearly represented our genre. I think we did this successfully.

To what extent did you need to work with others and ‘bounce ideas’ off other people to be truly creative?

This was done alot at the beginning to brainstorm our main character Ryan Lawson. But after this as the director, it became more of me thinking of where to shoot, what to wear, shots and even editing.

How much of your creativity was about trial and error?

My choices of shots were all about this, as sometimes I felt like I didn't know what I wanted. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and wanted everything to clearly set a mood and the cliffhanger at the end to make our audience want more.

To what extent was a lack of confidence an issue in terms of your creativity?

When Mr D spoke to us and told us about how much work needed to be done to make the film an A Grade standard. This definetely knocked my confidence at first, but I knew I wanted to do well so all my time was put into editing the film.

To what extent was a lack of technical competence/confidence an obstacle to your creativity?

We had a problem with using the camera as when we put the shots on the computer they seemed to look alot darker, so this took up alot of our time as during editing the lighting of shots had to be changed. However this did not stifle my creativity as focusing on the grade I wanted to acheive motivated me to just work hard at it.
