The conventions I think should be in a western are:
A good guy
A bad guy
They can include native american sites being attacked
Ususally end with a stand off between the goodie and the baddie.
Use an iconic weapon like a revolver
There can be a hostage situation
They also have alot of eye view angle shots during the stand off
Romcom
Friends with benefits
A good movie that follows some of the conventions of a Romcom is Friends with Benefits.
The audience may be able to relate with the two main characters (Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis) as they both have had bad relationship endings. You are also introduced to the other characters who are the best friends who are the main source of humour. Justin's best friend is a gay man who does come out with witty comments. Justin also introduces his 'friend with benifits' to his famil aswell.
The lighting throughout the movie is quite bright and cheerful, even during the night. The Resolution at the end is a happy ending and they both get together at the end. Therfore this movie does follow quite a few of the conventions of a Romcom.
Sub-Genre is a genre within a genre and a Hybrid Sub-Genre is taking two sub-genres and putting them together for example an 'Comedy Musical' like the movie hairspray
Insidious
Horror conventions involved are the creepy child who is being possesed by evil spirits. He is the main feature of the story. The father is the main protagonist along with the famil who are trying to stop their young son from being possessed. This does involve child issues and the supernatural features also.
